Program begins on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), and stops on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 12:00 noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5). You can apply only on the official website of the lottery: https://dvprogram.state.gov/.
This year participation is not available for people from the following countries: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam. Restrictions are due to the fact that more 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the US in the previous five years. People born in Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible.
The announcement of the lottery results is planned on May 8, 2020. The issuance of visas for the winners will continue until September 30, 2022.
We recommend that you do not wait for the deadline and fill out the form as soon as the lottery starts. Due to the high load the site may work with problems. If you postpone your application to the last day, you risk not being able to submit the application.
Keep in mind that one of the requirements for participation is a compliant digital photo. A photo that does not match the required format will cause your entry to be automatically rejected. You can get your photo online here: https://visafoto.com/diversity-visa-lottery-photo.
Note that the DV program application is free and will always be free. Beware of fraud.
