For the first time in the history of the Green Card lottery, the registration did not start in October. Many people feared that the program had been canceled, but this is not true.

The U.S. Department of State officially announced that technical updates to the entry process are the reason for the delay.

On November 5, 2025, the Department confirmed that it is making several changes to how and when applicants can submit their entries for the Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 Program ( https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/changes-to-2027-dv-program-entry-period.html ).

The exact start date for DV-2027 registration has not been released yet, but the Department said it will be announced as soon as possible.

Once registration opens, applicants will be able to submit their entries online through the official Diversity Visa Program website: https://dvprogram.state.gov/ . The Department will also publish the date when DV-2027 results can be checked through the Entry Status Check (ESC) portal.

Officials highlighted that these updates will not change the visa application period for those who win the lottery. Winners will still be able to apply for their immigrant visas between October 1, 2026, and September 30, 2027.
