Have you applied for the DV lottery program? Congratulations! To benefit from your entry, you must keep your confirmation number in a safe and secure place for six months. The confirmation number is your proof of participation in the program. The selection of winners takes place in May, so you have winter and spring to safeguard your number. How can you do that? Read on!

Although the entry period for the DV Lottery takes place in October and early November, the selection day usually takes place in May.

To check your status, you will need the following data: (*) Confirmation number; (*) Last/Family name; (*) Year of birth

You should memorize your confirmation number for six months and ensure you write it correctly when you check your status. This can be a difficult task because the confirmation number is a 16-character sequence containing random numbers and letters, with only the first four symbols representing the participation year.

And here comes the first hazard: you might misspell your confirmation number. Even if you keep it, it will be of no use if it's misspelled. So, how can you solve this problem?

First, do not write down your confirmation number by hand; instead, copy and paste it somewhere, like in your electronic agenda. When it is time for the Entrant Status Check, do not type it by hand either. Just copy and paste it as well.

We advise you to use our DV Program helper in the 7ID app ( https://7id.app/ ). After opening this section, choose Save your DV Confirmation Number. The first digits that represent the year of the program are already pre saved for you.

Secondly, your confirmation number has a specific structure. The 7ID app will keep it. You will not be able to skip a digit from the number or on the contrary to add additional digits or to misarrange the numbers and letters.

When you keep your confirmation number using the 7ID app, it is only stored on your phone. You are not at risk that it will be known by anyone else.

You will need your full name (first, last and middle), date of birth and email address that you have used in your form.

The Department of State will provide you with your confirmation number. You can also use this tool to check your confirmation number if you have doubts about spelling it correctly.

However, we advise you to keep your confirmation number on your phone using the 7ID app.
